![]() ![]() It’s either there and the system has that warm, organic sparkle, or its flat and annoying. The Bryston has very low distortion on paper, perhaps not as low as the AHB2, but to me its another "who cares" lesson because its all about the end synergy. The Bryston was heads and tails a better match. There was just something missing about the AHB2 presentation like the soul was sucked out and I could not connect to the music.Īt this time a lightly used Bryston 4B SST2 popped and I bought it. In the past I drove my dyns with a Pass X250.5, Plinius SA102, and I know how amazing they can sound at pretty much any level. After some time however, the sound grew fatiguing to me, and I noticed that it did not sound all that great when played at low to medium-low volume. It easily drove the Dyns with precise control. I found the sheer resolution very remarkable The bass was tight and tuneful. The second unit was stable with no issues. I called Benchmark and they were phenomenal with sending me out a new unit. My first AHB2 amp arrived and a problem developed shortly after I connected everything up properly, turned it on, played some music, then listened for a bit then it went into protection mode. I read pretty much every report, paper, review, etc on this piece because I was in the market for an amp -looking for a good fit with my Dynaudio Contour S3.4 LEs. I will be grateful for any comments.īack in April/May of last year I auditioned, with the intent to buy, the AHB2. My birthday is coming in a month and I could buy myself a present. I found favorable review of AHB2 vs NAD M22, but it might not apply to my situation since M22 is based on different modules (Hypex). I'm looking for anyone familiar with AHB2 and class D amps. They tend to sound warm (soft dome tweeter), with wonderful midrange. My speakers are Hyperion Sound HPS-938, (a giant killer), but not too many people are familiar with them since company went bankrupt few years ago. It could possibly extend trebles a little more (trebles are slightly veiled now). It has neutral sound, that I like, with very low noise floor (according to reviews) It matches my Benchmark DAC3 (electrically and physically) I feel that Benchmark AHB2 might be a good choice for few reasons: These modules were used in many small class D amps, including Bel Canto S300 and M300. It is basically couple of Icepower 200ASC modules packed into resonance free heavy case, with additional input differential amp THAT1200. "The Benchmark AHB2 gets my strongest recommendation. My current amplifier, driven by Benchmark DAC3 HGC, is Rowland model 102. "The Benchmark AHB2 breaks new ground with respect to performance of power amplifiers." KellenVancouver, Forum Member Comments from Amir's AHB2 Test Report: ![]() "So far the only thing to displace a Benchmark product has been newer upgraded Benchmark products." "Been using Benchmark since the DAC1 came out." Rubinson, Forum Member, Stereophile Reviewer "I bought the AHB2s because I liked the sound from the get-go and the excellent measured performance was a great confirmation. "We know they are top of the heap in terms of measured performance, outdoing plenty of the competition in terms of typical distortion measurements." "I'm asking because clearly Benchmark is a highly regarded company here, and plenty of ASR members own Benchmark amplification/DACs." With Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio, and Hi-Rez PCM and DSD files now available, we have created a new Class, A+, for the best performance in those digital categories." "Best attainable sound for a component of its kind, almost without practical considerations "the least musical compromise." A Class A system is one for which you don't have to make a leap of faith to believe that you're hearing the real thing. Stereophile defines Class A and the digital processor Class A+ as follows: 'Class A+' is Stereophile's highest classification for digital processors. I heard deeper into the music." The concise conclusion to John Atkinson's Measurements sidebar: "All I can say is 'Wow!'" the DAC3 was all about depths, in several respects. Bearing in mind the manufacturer's suggestion that there should be no audible difference between their DAC1 and DAC3, Jim Austin wrote, "In fact, I found the sounds of the two DACs quite different. Benchmark's DAC3 HGC-the last three letters designate this as the audiophile version, with a headphone amp and two analog inputs-supports files up to 24/192 and DSD64, the latter as DoP (via USB). ![]()
